Northern Red Diamond Rattlesnake (Crotalus rubber rubber)

Status:
No federal or state listing status, California Department of Fish and Game Species of Special Concern, El Sobrante Covered Species.

Habitat:
Chaparral in the foothills and brush covered boulders and cactus patches within coastal sage scrub.

Range:
San Diego, San Bernardino, and counties south into Baja California, Mexico. Elevations range from near sea level to 460 feet.

Threats:
Agriculture and urban development, frightened humans.

Population at El Sobrante:
The exact number and distribution of this species at the El Sobrante Preserve is unknown; it is fairly common in the Preserve.
