Orange-thrated Whiptail (Cnemidophorus hyperythrus beldingi)

Status:
No federal listings status, California Department of Fish and Game Species of Special Concern, El Sobrante Covered Species.

Habitat:
Coastal sage scrub, chaparral, washes, streamsides, and other sandy areas with rocks, patches of brush, and rocky hillsides.

Range:
Southwestern San Bernardino County and Orange County, south to the tip of Baja California, Mexico.

Threats:
Habitat loss and fragmentation, fire control efforts, widespread use of insecticides, spread of Argentine ants that displace native insects.

Population at El Sobrante:
The exact number and distribution of this species at the El Sobrante Preserve is unknown; it is fairly common in the Preserve.
