San Diego Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma coronatum blainvillii)

Status:
No federal listings status, California Department of Fish and Game Species of Special Concern, El Sobrante Covered Species.

Habitat:
Open coastal sage scrub and chaparral with patches of fine loose soil.

Range:
Southern California and Northern Baja California, Mexico.

Threats:
Urbanization and development, agriculture (widespread use of insecticides), fire control efforts, collection as pets, and spread of Argentine ants.

Population at El Sobrante:
The exact number and distribution of this species at the El Sobrante Preserve is unknown; it is fairly common in the Preserve.
