Coastal California Gnatcatcher (Polioptila californica californica)

Status:
Federally listed as threatened, California Department of Fish and Game Species of Special Concern, El Sobrante Covered Species.

Habitat:
Coastal sage scrub.

Range:
Coastal Ventura and Los Angeles counties, western Riverside and San Bernardino counties, Orange and San Diego counties south to Baja California, Mexico, below 2,000 feet.

Threats:
Urbanization and agricultural development, nest predation and brood parasitism by brown-headed cowbirds.

Population at El Sobrante:
Twenty-six pairs are know to occur at El Sobrante.
