Loggerhead Shrike (Lanius ludivicianus)
Status:
California Department of Fish and Game of Special Concern, El Sobrante Covered Species.
Habitat:
Grasslands, sparse coastal sage scrub, agricultural fields and chaparral.
Range:
Continental United States and Mexico, year-round resident of southern California.
Threats:
Urbanization and loss of habitat, widespread use of pesticides.
Population at El Sobrante:
The exact number and distribution of this species at the El Sobrante Preserve is unknown; it is fairly uncommon in the Preserve.
