Northwestern San Diego Pocket Mouse (Chaetodipus fallax fallax)

Status:
No federal listing status, California Department of Fish and Game Species of Special Concern, El Sobrante Covered Species.

Habitat:
Sparse or disturbed coastal sage scrub, chaparral, and grasslands with sandy soils.

Range:
Los Angeles County and extreme southern San Bernardino County southward through western Riverside and San Diego counties into westcentral Baja California, Mexico.

Threats:
Habitat loss and fragmentation due to urbanization and agriculture development.

Population at El Sobrante:
The exact number and distribution of this species at the El Sobrante Preserve is unknown; it is fairly common in the Preserve.
