Keeping the Community Clean -
Message from Alex Braicovich
As you make your way around the Inland Empire on your way to work, school or conducting your daily errands, it’s hard to miss the green Waste Management trucks.
Our drivers will be the first to tell you that this means a lot of time spent driving. But WM is proud that in addition to providing comprehensive services to our customers, we’re also taking steps to be considerate of the environment, not just with our waste and recycling services, but also with our vehicles.
Last summer, for example, Waste Management beat the California Air Resources Board (ARB) early deadline for retrofitting or retiring diesel trucks in order to reduce particulate emissions. We have reduced more than 21 tons per year of harmful air emissions from our fleet of garbage and recycling trucks through several different processes.

Join WM in Celebrating Earth Day
April 22,2006 marks Earth Day this year! Earth Day was started over 35 years ago to focus the nation on the impacts of air and water pollution. Much of the federal legislation that addresses air quality and water resources was developed as a result of the early Earth Day celebration.
Since that time, Earth Day celebrations have evolved into community service projects, public education forums, and increased focus on recycling and source reduction strategies in communities throughout America.

Proper Disposal of Universal Waste
Residents of the Inland Empire looking for alternatives for disposing of household “universal waste” such as batteries, old cell phones or fluorescent light tubes have a number of local options.
As of February 9, all Californians must dispose of items deemed “universal waste” by the California Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC) at designated recycling centers or household hazardous waste collection centers. Products like this, which have low levels of hazardous metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium and chromium, can potentially contaminate soil and groundwater, so they cannot be disposed of in the trash.
