WM Helps Collect Items for Local Troops
Waste Management of the Inland Empire recently participated in Operation Freedom Support to help collect food and toiletries for troops at the March Air Reserve Base (MARB) who are on their way to Iraq. The Air Base is located just outside the City limits of Moreno Valley and has had 25,000 men and women deployed to Iraq since the war began.
“Operation Freedom Support” was started by a group of volunteers from Moreno Valley who wanted to collect items from the community for the troops. Before the soldiers leave for Iraq, they create a wish list of items that they would like to take with them, such as peanut butter, soup, candy bars, Kleenex tissues and Q-Tips, and the volunteers work hard to get these items.
Waste Management became involved after our manager of community relations, Julie Reyes, heard about the drive and thought it was a great way to give back to the individuals who serve our country. Collection boxes were placed in our offices in the Operations and Customer Service areas. We will be making a trip to the Air Base to deliver the goods we collected and to meet the troops before they leave for Iraq.
