• Waste Management, combined with its wholly owned subsidiary Recycle America, is North America’s largest recycler, recycling enough paper last year to save more than 41 million trees

  • Our renewable energy projects create enough energy to power about 1 million homes and save the equivalent of about more than 14 million barrels of oil per year (or 3.6 million tons of coal)

  • From Driver to Firefighter

Waste Management’s truck drivers are trained to handle numerous situations, and as Manuel Santana recently showed, there is nothing like quick thinking and action in the line of duty.

Santana is a residential driver in the City of Chino and is responsible for recycling collection. A WM employee since 1995, Santana was servicing a resident’s recycling container when he noticed a small flame coming out of a metal bucket on the side of a garage wall. Santana quickly parked his truck and ran to the front door to alert the residents. As the fire began to engulf the garage wall, he grabbed a water hose that was nearby and put it out quickly.

One of the residents of the house came out in a panic, but Santana assured her that the fire was put out. She was so grateful for Santana’s quick actions that she called our office to let us know how fortunate we were to have such an outstanding employee on our team.

To recognize Santana for his heroic efforts, we asked him to share his experience with the other employees at our weekly safety meeting. We also presented him with a watch and applauded his efforts. The safety of our employees and our customers is a priority at Waste Management and we are proud to have Manuel on our team.
