Dear Friends,
As we wrap up the first month of the New Year, I would like to remind you that there is still some time left to comment on the draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Report for our proposed permit revisions. The public comment period ends February 4, 2009. We have been making presentations to the various community groups and are pleased with the support we have received. Your input is critical, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
This month, I would like to point out some very notable acknowledgments. First, Waste Management released its 2008 corporate sustainability report; “The Color of Our World,” which outlines the internal steps Waste Management is taking to advance its environmental performance. We are very proud that El Sobrante Landfill was mentioned in the report as one of the sites that has helped Waste Management move towards its sustainability goals.
Second, we received a commendation from the U.S. Army for our support of one our U.S. Army soldiers- Army Reserve Sergeant First Class Dave Hillyer. Sergeant Hillyer has been with Waste Management for eight years and works at El Sobrante as a Landfill Supervisor. We are proud to support him and our country.
In more good news - this month, Guadalupe Gonzales celebrated 21 years with Waste Management. We want to congratulate him and thank him for his strong commitment to El Sobrante Landfill.
We hope your year is off to a great start. If you are interested in learning more about the landfill and the wildlife preserve, I encourage you contact Lily Quiroa, Community Relations Manager, at (951) 277-5112 to schedule a tour.
Best,
Damon De Frates District Manager
