El Sobrante Landfill is a Class 3 regional disposal facility permitted to accept up to 10,000 tons per day, seven days per week. It employs approximately 40 full-time employees. Landfill operations are overseen by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, and the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health.
El Sobrante Landfill was recognized this month with the Freedom Team Salute, acknowledging its support of U.S. Army Soldiers.

The Freedom Team Salute is a program, launched in 2005 by the Secretary of the Army and Chief of Staff of the Army, to recognize U.S. army veterans, parents, spouses and employers of U.S. Army Soldiers who have significantly contributed to supporting U.S. Army Soldiers and the Army’s Mission.

El Sobrante Landfill supervisor and Army Reserve Sergeant First Class Dave Hillyer submitted El Sobrante for the commendation. He submitted the request to acknowledge the support he has received from his employer.

Dave joined El Sobrante in 2001, shortly after serving 14-and-a-half years on active duty, and has been in the Army Reserves since then. He was deployed in 2003 for 15-months and he is currently on his second tour of duty.

Dave is grateful for the support Waste Management has provided to him and his family- wife, Kathy, and almost two-year-old daughter Madeleine Grace. He knows that his family will be looked after in his absence and for that reason he wanted to show his gratitude to El Sobrante by presenting it with the Freedom Team Salute commendation.
