It’s no surprise that Solavann "Sol" Sim is very comfortable in construction boots, operating heavy equipment and managing projects since he spent years working in his family's construction business. He is now the face behind El Sobrante's projects as the site engineer and environmental protection specialist.
Sol received his civil engineering degree from Cal State Fullerton. After college, he continued working in the family business as project manager for various CalTrans and school renovation projects throughout Riverside and San Diego counties. Right before coming to work for Waste Management, he worked at a civil engineering firm designing grading plans for commercial development projects. Now at El Sobrante, he feels lucky to have the opportunity to do both project management and design work.
While not new to landfill work, he has had experience installing landfill gas wells at other landfill sites, all the work it takes to manage trash and run a landfill continues to amaze him. In addition to his engineering responsibilities, Sol also works with the regulatory agencies that oversee the landfill making sure that we submit all mandated reporting, and follow all environmental protocols.
Sol grew up in Fallbrook (in San Diego County) and now resides in Orange County with his new wife, Mariel. A "kid at heart," Sol enjoys outdoor activities, playing in his soccer or softball team on a weekly basis. He is also an avid cyclist who participates in duathlons and charity sporting events.
