El Sobrante Landfill is a Class 3 regional disposal facility permitted to accept up to 10,000 tons per day, seven days per week. It employs approximately 40 full-time employees. Landfill operations are overseen by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, and the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health.

It has been over three months since I became the new Senior District Manager at El Sobrante Landfill and have had the pleasure of meeting many of you at the Temescal Valley Advisory Council meetings and at other community events. In fact, I spent a couple of hours working the Keep America Beautiful cleanup event down at the Temescal Wash area.

We are fast approaching the end of another school year and, looking back, we are proud to share that we have had close to 1,500 students visit the landfill and wildlife preserve this year. Just between the months of April and May, we had close to 500 students learn about the workings of our landfill and about all the habitat restoration work we do at our wildlife preserve.

It’s no surprise that Solavann “Sol” Sim is very comfortable in construction boots, operating heavy equipment and managing projects since he spent years working in his family’s construction business. He is now the face behind El Sobrante’s projects as the site engineer and environmental protection specialist.
