El Sobrante Landfill is a Class 3 regional disposal facility permitted to accept up to 10,000 tons per day, seven days per week. It employs approximately 40 full-time employees. Landfill operations are overseen by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, and the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health.

Dear Friends,
Happy Fall. Although the weather hasn’t changed yet, we’re all looking forward to cooler days. We want to help you green this year’s first fall festivity - Halloween. When you consider that consumers are expected to spend more than $5 billion on Halloween candy, costumes, and goodies this year, you can only imagine how much trash is created to celebrate just one day. We’d like to offer you a few hints how to have a Green Halloween.
We are working on a few infrastructure improvements at El Sobrante to continue our commitment to run a safe and environmentally friendly site. These improvements will not only improve your visit to the landfill but also improve our dust and storm-water monitoring.
We continue to highlight our employees whose every day commitment help run El Sobrante Landfill. Some of them may be your neighbors since a few live here in Temescal Valley. This month, we would like you to meet Nicole Belcher; she has worked for Waste Management for over five years and is an essential part in the success of the maintenance department.
Finally, we want to make you aware that a new law took effect on Sept. 1, 2008, that forbids all home-generated hypodermic needles from being thrown away in waste containers. We want to include you in our public education to assist the approximately 9 million at-home injectors find a convenient solution to safely dispose of their needles.
