WASTE MANAGEMENT WELCOMES NEW ADDITION TO EL SOBRANTE LANDFILL MANAGEMENT TEAM
District Manager Brings Experience and Commitment to Landfill Operations
Temescal Valley, CA, February 19, 2009 - Waste Management names longtime Inland Empire resident, Mike Williams, as new district manager for El Sobrante Landfill.
As the new district manager overseeing the El Sobrante Landfill, Williams’ responsibilities include managing the daily landfill operations, maintaining efficiencies and compliance with all regulations and maintaining a strong relationship with Riverside County and the local communities.
Williams brings more than two decades of waste industry experience to the position, serving as a landfill manager at facilities throughout the Waste Management system in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. His most recent position was as the engineer for projects in Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire.
“Mike is a great addition to the El Sobrante team,” said Larry Metter, Vice President for Waste Management. “His years of experience, along with his passion for the industry, will be a great benefit for our Inland Empire operations.”
Mike was raised in the City of Highland and currently lives with his family in Cathedral City. He obtained his degree in civil engineering from California State Polytechnic University. After a six-year term in the Army reserves, he worked for a public agency as a civil engineer where he was introduced to the waste industry through his work on landfill projects. Williams has worked for Waste Management for over 20 years in various leadership roles.
Williams replaces Damon De Frates, who has managed El Sobrante for the past eight years. De Frates was recently promoted to serve as WM’s new director of landfill operations for much of southern California and Hawaii.
“Mike really gets the issues of environment and community,” said Damon De Frates, Waste Management’s Director of Landfill Operations. “He’s a great fit for El Sobrante Landfill and will continue to put community and environmental protection first at this important facility.”
“It’s good to be back home, where I first started my engineering career,” said Williams. “I look forward to working with the outstanding El Sobrante staff, meeting our neighbors and helping to preserve the great environment we have out here in the Inland Empire.”
Waste Management’s El Sobrante Landfill is located in the unincorporated area of Riverside County. The landfill serves more than one million Inland Empire residents and is a critical component of Riverside County and the greater Los Angeles region’s infrastructure. The site has more than XXX acres in permanent preservation and is a critical component of preserving open space in Riverside County.
